Checking the “find events” at http://www.barackobama.com and finding many, many staging locations for the gotv canvassing operations here in Reno (on behalf of the Campaign for Change).
As it turns out, over 50% of Democrats have voted in my Assembly District (that would be #27, represented by Sheila Leslie) and in my precinct, 5056 or the downtown voters. I live at the Riverboat (currently, and for the last 3 years), and during the 13 days of the early voting period, 11 of 16 Democrats there voted! But, it’s the Riverwalk that gets the most gold stars, as 17 of 18 Democrats have voted there.
Now, I was gone the last two weeks of October so I was not a part of the gotv operations from the staging location assigned for section 2 of Assembly District 27. And, yesterday I saw Laynette’s link to Mike K’s page where the gotv operation volunteer schedule is posted, and all positions look covered. I monitored the gotv situation via the VAN (the Nevada State Democratic Party database which some trained volunteers have access to) and stayed in touch with a few people who lived downtown in some of the high voter volume buildings. (And, since they seem to have all volunteer bases covered, I can rest, get over a nasty cold, and prepare for heading to Cameron Park in a couple of days.)
Now, the main agenda item is to determine which election night party (if any) to visit. I see at http://renonv.ning.com that there is a thread is discussing the various parties for that night. The Lincoln Lounge at 304 E. 4th St. is pretty close by, and sounds young and loose, so that might be the best bet to hang out at for the most part. And, then maybe drop in on the Washoe Dem event at the Grande Sierra. The main point in going to that party would be to (hopefully) congratulate Byllie Andrews on her election to the School Board. And, of course others (like surefire winners Sheila Leslie and David Bobzien).
It all began in late February 2007. First there was Billy Howard’s Renobama, then soon thereafter Rachel Sigman got hired to run operations in northern Nevada. She ran quite the operation (along with some other amazing young people) and Obama carried Washoe County in the Caucus. (She is running the field ops for the whole state now.)
And, after the election, per Obama’s request at the October 12, 2007 precinct captain meeting in the Nevada Rm at the Grande Sierra, an organizational structure/process will be always ready to help him manifest his agenda and policies. He noted that people need to be organized lobbyists so that “Harry and Louise” won’t be able to do commercials and knock out his legislative proposals, etc.
